Rachel Ormsby

Rachel Ormsby is the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Program Manager and Principal Investigator at Redwire’s In Space Manufacturing and Operations business unit. In these roles, she manages the mechanical engineering department as well as several programs and projects within the company’s biotechnology and materials science portfolio.

Rachel has more than 30 years of experience in the aerospace industry. She has served as program manager, principal investigator, project manager, project engineer, lead mechanical engineer, lead of test and integration team, lead of thermal design team, design engineer and analyst. She currently is the program manager for a pair of NASA furnaces, Pore Formation and Mobility Investigation (PFMI) and Solidification Using a Baffle in Sealed Ampoules (SUBSA), as well as the ADvanced Space Experiment Processor (ADSEP) facilities which includes the Pharmaceutical In-space Laboratory – Biocrystal Optimization Xperiment (PIL-BOX) program. As the program manager, Ormsby is responsible for a multidisciplinary team including mechanical, electrical and software engineers and support staff. She is responsible for budget, schedules, and technical project management. Her recent flight hardware experience includes seven investigations on the NASA PFMI and SUBSA furnaces and the Squids’ experiment, which launched on SpaceX CRS-22 mission.

Before joining the company in 1997, Rachel started her career at NASA Langley Research Center and NASA Ames Research Center as an engineer in the Space Station Freedom Office and the Space Station Biological Research Program, respectively. Rachel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Boston University, a Master of Science degree in Astronautics from George Washington University and a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Old Dominion University. When not at Redwire, Ormsby is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, a Private Pilot, an Author and a Missionary.
